Nutritional Therapy

Here at Flourish, we weave together traditional Chinese/East Asian nutritional therapy with evidence-based, functional Western approaches to diet, grounded in dietetics and current research, so our patients receive advice tailored to their needs rather than a generic plan.

TCM takes a different path than standard Western nutrition. Good nutrition isn’t only for weight loss or digestive health patients; it’s foundational to physical and mental health throughout life and is part of how we help treat or manage health conditions like diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and hormonal imbalances.

It’s not about labeling foods “bad” or “good,” or following a one-size-fits-all “wellness” diet.

Instead, nutrition is part of care for most of our patients, whatever their primary issue. A balanced eating pattern can support the heart, brain, immune system, muscles, and digestive tract.

We focus on nutritious foods, vegetables, fruit, whole grains, high-quality carbohydrate sources, protein, healthy fats from nuts and seeds, and hydrating foods and beverages that balance your body, support your immune system, and lower the risk of diet-related diseases.

We also encourage healthy eating by limiting foods high in unhealthy fats and sugars. Because stress drives unhealthy eating and disrupts nutrient absorption, we incorporate mindful eating into the plan, along with strategies to help manage stress and support healthier habits.

And we provide ongoing support, so small, sustainable changes become healthy habits that last.

Nutritional Guidance and Medical Nutrition Therapy

For patients receiving acupuncture care through Flourish, personalized medical nutrition therapy is part of your standard care when your practitioner finds it relevant.

Nutrition counseling matters most for people managing chronic health challenges, so we assess your nutritional status by identifying needs based on your health, age, lifestyle, intake, and other factors.

Recommendations may involve developing a plan around food sources, healthy eating, physical activity, and prevention. When medically necessary, care may include enteral nutrition, tube feeding, or intravenous nutrient administration.

This can be especially helpful for care related to diabetes, hormone imbalance, digestive concerns, kidney disease, cancer, overweight, obesity, and malnutrition.

If you’re interested in nutritional support without acupuncture, virtual options are available.
