Women's Health
Acupuncture From Puberty to Menopause
Part of the magic of being a woman lives in our hormonal cycles; they connect us to the moon, to nature, and to each other. And yet these hormones, which drive so much of our experience, are also vulnerable to disruption from internal and external factors.
Issues with our hormones, our periods, fertility, or our vaginal health can signal deeper imbalances, or affect sleep, mood, pain, and overall quality of life. These are things to address and improve, rather than accept as “normal.”
Whether you’re facing painful periods, heavy bleeds, irregular cycles, fertility challenges, pregnancy or postpartum changes, or hot flashes in Sonoma County, we’re here to help. Acupuncture from puberty to menopause is at the heart of our women’s health care, a nurturing, individualized approach rooted in traditional Chinese medicine that helps balance hormonal cycles, relieve menstrual discomfort, support fertility, ease menopausal symptoms, and improve overall well-being through each stage.
We help you feel your best through acupuncture, herbs, supplements, nutrition, lifestyle changes, and spiritual support.

Puberty and Early Adulthood
At this phase of life, the body hasn’t yet developed the ruts and habits that cause long-term challenges, which means things can sometimes feel better faster.
We support patients at this age by helping you learn about your body and its cycles and identify what may be driving heavy periods, irregular periods, or severe PMS. Acupuncture can help regulate menstrual cycles in adolescents and provide natural relief from menstrual discomfort.
Nutrition, stress management, and herbal medicine play a big role in getting things on track, so you can get back to having fun.

The “Reproductive” Years (Or Perhaps Anti-reproductive Years?)
We think of puberty and menopause as the main physical changes in women’s lives, but in reality, there’s a world of change that happens in between.
Maybe you’ve received a diagnosis like endometriosis or PCOS. Or maybe you’re facing low libido, pain with sex, severe PMS, or irregular periods, often signs of hormonal imbalances we can help correct.
The big challenge at this stage is balancing your body’s needs against the demands the world places on you: work, family, pets, bills. Striking that balance can make all the difference to your body’s health and function.
We’re here to listen and provide individualized care, so you have the support you need to find that balance.
Reproductive health is top of mind for many at this time of life. Fertility and pregnancy make up many of the patients we support, and we LOVE this work; acupuncture may support fertility by improving blood flow to the reproductive organs. Read about our fertility care or our pregnancy support.
PMS and Menstrual Pain: How We Treat Pain
Periods don’t have to be painful!
We’ve been taught to quietly accept the discomfort, bloating, irritability, cramping, acne, and digestive changes that come with our periods. But each symptom points to an imbalance that can be improved or even eliminated. There’s no need to suffer in silence.
Plenty of research shows acupuncture can help with painful periods and PMS, and an acupuncture treatment uses thin needles at specific points to support energy flow, ease symptoms, and, when needed, be manipulated manually to guide the body’s response. It’s generally safe when performed by a qualified practitioner using sterile needles.
As a complementary and alternative medicine, it works best alongside a personalized wellness plan and can also support stress relief by stimulating endorphin release. Common side effects can include mild soreness or a little bleeding at needle sites, while serious adverse events are rare.
At Flourish, you’ll receive not just acupuncture, but also herbal and supplement recommendations and nutritional and lifestyle advice, and natural pain relief for menstrual discomfort and the other symptoms that come with it.
Together, these pieces help you find balance and leave the discomfort behind.

Menopause and Menopausal Symptoms
At Flourish, we see menopause as a beautiful transformation, a new beginning. From a Chinese medicine perspective, this change brings an energy shift from the lower body into the upper body, recentering us around love, community, and care.
Of course, the transition brings challenges too: hot flashes and night sweats, mood shifts, disrupted sleep, brain fog, and changes in body shape as hormones fluctuate, with metabolic shifts during menopause also contributing to inflammation.
Many women experience hot flushes during menopause. Through perimenopause and beyond, acupuncture works to manage symptoms and ease menopausal symptoms, and regular treatment may reduce perimenopausal symptoms, while significantly reducing hot flush frequency and severity, calming the nervous system to relieve stress, improving sleep quality, steadying mood, and easing the joint pain that comes with declining estrogen. A 2019 study found 80% of women reported benefits from acupuncture for menopause symptoms.
We have acupuncture treatments, herbs and supplements, and recommendations to help this transition be a time of ease and joy rather than discomfort and struggle.

You’ve transitioned beyond your reproductive years, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t feel good, enjoy sex, and feel confident in your body!
